Request a Grant Writer

Grants ranging from $5,000 to $35,000 to Connecticut nonprofit organizations and government agencies in eligible areas to promote the care, humane treatment, and welfare of domestic animals and wildlife. New applicants must submit a Letter of Intent prior to submitting a full application.

Priority will be given to programs that:
-Provide veterinary care for domestic and wild animals, especially spay and neuter services;
-Encourage responsible pet ownership and the adoption of abandoned animals;
-Rehabilitate wildlife for return to natural habitats; and
-Make positive, therapeutic connections between people and animals.

Preference is given to programs that are:
-Collaborative in nature;
-Regional in scope;
-Rooted in evidence-based, solution-oriented approaches;
-Serve lower-income communities;
-Serve at-risk animals;
-Include specific, measurable outcomes; and
-Affect positive change over the long term.

The Foundation will also consider:
-Grants for existing programs, new initiatives or special projects; or
-Grants for capacity-building or public policy work.

For 2019, the Foundation will consider animal welfare grants that benefit any of the following 42 towns: Ashford, Bozrah, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, Eastford, East Lyme, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Hampton, Killingly, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Lyme, Mansfield, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Old Lyme, Plainfield, Pomfret, Preston, Putnam, Salem, Scotland, Sprague, Stafford, Sterling, Stonington, Thompson, Union, Voluntown, Waterford, Willington, Windham, and Woodstock.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Eligible applicants may submit grant requests of $5,000 to $35,000.

Term of Contract:

The Foundation will consider grants for multiyear programs if the applicant can demonstrate need.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

These grants must be for the benefit of the animals and residents of New London County, which includes the towns of Bozrah, Colchester, East Lyme, Franklin, Griswold, Groton, Lebanon, Ledyard, Lisbon, Lyme, Montville, New London, North Stonington, Norwich, Old Lyme, Preston, Salem, Sprague, Stonington, Voluntown and Waterford.

Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation from the IRS or organizations using a nonprofit fiscal agent; municipal or governmental agencies; and other charitable organizations.

Funding will not be considered for projects that are typically supported by public funds.

Grants will not support individuals, routine operating expenses, capital campaigns, litigation, deficit funding, endowment campaigns, for-profit organizations or religious programming

-Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019.
-Final decisions will be made and applicants will be notified by the end of April 2019.

Please Note:
To streamline the process, the Foundation has eliminated the Letter of Intent (LOI) requirement for previously funded applicants. If you are a new applicant to the Foundation, or would like to discuss a new program idea, you are required to speak with Jennifer O'Brien, or submit a program description of up to two pages before December 14, 2018.
