Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $1,000 to Connecticut and New York artists for the production of new works addressing the marine and coastal environments of Connecticut or Long Island Sound. Funds may be used to cover the cost of supplies and other expenses associated with producing works of art, exclusive of payment of salary and travel.

Criteria for Selection: 

Relevance to Connecticut Sea Grant’s themes as outlined in the Connecticut Sea Grant Strategic Plan (see PDF in Supporting Documents below) and artistic merit are the primary selection criteria, but the proposal will also be judged on the basis of its tangible outcomes, such as new works produced and displayed, number of art exhibitions planned, ability to reach a large, diverse, and non-traditional audience, etc.

If possible, funded artists are asked to arrange a showing of their completed work at the Alexey Von Schlippe Art Gallery at the Avery Point campus of UConn.

Projects are expected to be completed within 12 months of funding.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Artists or groups of artists who live in Connecticut, or whose work is related to Connecticut’s coastal and marine environments and/or Long Island Sound are eligible for funding consideration. Previous recipients of Sea Grant Arts awards are not eligible for 5 years.

Pre-Application Information:

The application should be submitted electronically via email for receipt no later than 4:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by June 23, 2021.
