Grants to Rhode Island and Connecticut units of government and nonprofit organizations in eligible locations to address community needs. Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, priority will be given to proposals that provide basic needs and those that support residents with low-moderate income. Eligible organizations must serve the residents of New London County, CT, and the Westerly, RI area.

Priorities

Funding priorities are focused on projects and organizations that support the following:

  • Affordable housing
  • Basic human services for those considered most at-risk
  • Development/education, job training, or promotion of literacy, especially preventative programs that encourage self-sufficiency
  • Opportunities for collaborative efforts, or that leverage matching dollars
  • Services to at-risk or under-served children, families or the elderly, with emphasis on low/moderate income levels

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

- Grants are awarded to organizations that are recognized as exempt from federal income taxation under Section 501( c )(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and governmental units referred to in Section 170( c )(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Organizations that serve the residents of New London County, CT, and the Westerly, RI, area.
- While there is no limit on how often an organization may apply to the Foundation, funding will be provided to the same organization only once per year.
- Post-grant reports must be on file for previously funded grants before consideration is given to new requests.

The Dime Foundation focuses on the following communities when awarding grants:
- Connecticut: All of New London County
- Rhode Island: Hopkinton, Richmond, Westerly

Generally, funding is NOT provided to fund-raising campaigns; organizations that fund other organizations or foundations; political or fraternal organizations; religious institutions; parent-run organizations (such as Parent-Teacher Organizations or Little League)

Pre-Application Information:

The foundation has three grant cycles per year. Grant applications for 2020 are due on March 18, July 8, and October 21.
