Grants of up to $20,000 to Connecticut nonprofit organizations in eligible areas to address critical needs caused by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Funding is intended to provide assistance to the most vulnerable. Eligible programs or projects must be within the Jewish community of Greater New Haven.

Goals 

  1. Provide emergency grants to Greater New Haven area Jewish agencies and synagogues for needs related to the current COVID-19 crisis. 
  2. Assist the Jewish Federation's agencies and synagogues to address critical human needs such as, but not limited to, unemployment, housing, mental health and social services, medical bills, and food insecurity; 
  3. Encourage collaboration between Jewish organizations to maximize use of resources; and 
  4. Outreach to Jewish households in Greater New Haven.

Monies from this fund will be deployed in two ways:

  1. Emergency grants to Jewish agencies and synagogues to allow them to meet increased and immediate community needs, such as food insecurity, unemployment, and mental health support.
  2. Direct assistance to individuals, families, and households in need.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum amount per grant application (not per organization) is $20,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grant applications will be accepted from tax-exempt organizations classified under Section 501 (c)3 or described in Section 170 (b) (1) (A) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be accepted March 26 through June 30, 2020. Funding decisions will be made on a rolling basis.

The maximum amount per grant application (not per organization) is $20,000. If an organization would like to apply for a larger grant, please discuss with Lisa Stanger before completing and submitting the grant application.

Requests for individuals can be made by a rabbi or agency head to the fund, on behalf of the person in need.
