Grants of up to $5,000 to USA K-12 schools to incorporate service activities into the curriculum during the fall and winter months. Priority will be given to schools with a large proportion of underserved students. Funding is intended to involve the student in community service programs within the framework of school or afterschool programs.

Grantees will use YSA’s Semester of Service framework (Semester of Service Toolkit and accompanying resources) to engage their students in service or service-learning projects lasting at least 10-14 weeks (and approximately 70 hours) during the fall 2021 semester.

9/11 Day activities should also engage students in learning about and reflecting on the meaning of 9/11 Day using materials provided by YSA and other 9/11 Day partners.

Term of Contract:

Semester of Service activities must begin on or around 9/11 Day of Service and continue throughout the fall semester. Culmination activities (reflection, demonstration, or celebration) are encouraged on or around MLK Day of Service (January 17, 2022), but not required.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are open to any public, private, or charter K-12 school that meets the requirements.

Preference will be given to Title I schools that engage a large percentage of youth from underserved communities.

Applicants must be based in the United States.

All activities must continue to put students’ health and safety first by following any COVID-related guidelines of federal, state, and local governments that are in still in place during the 2021-2022 academic year.

Grant funds may not be spent on staff/personnel salaries or stipends or to support any of these prohibited activities, including but not limited to: lobbying, partisan political activities, and voter registration.
