Opportunity for Connecticut high school seniors and juniors in eligible locations to participate in a health-based training program. The program is intended to teach youth about local health inequities and to address disparities at the neighborhood level. Priority will be given to students from historically defined communities of color. Through the program, students co-learn from each other about New Haven's neighborhoods, community engagement, and leadership development, with a focus on improving health in New Haven.

New Haven residents from the following neighborhoods will be prioritized: Dixwell, Dwight, Fair Haven, The Hill, Newhallville, West Hills, West River, West Rock, Whalley-Edgewood-Beaver Hills (WEB)

The Community Alliance for Research and Engagement (CARE) is offering a leadership program for New Haven high school juniors and seniors to work in collaboration with your community on solutions to pressing social and health issues.

Future Health Leaders will be expected to commit to the following goals:

  • Identify intersection of public health and neighborhood level issues. Work together on solutions to pressing social and health issues identified by the community.
  • Apply a community organizing framework to build health activities and initiatives at the neighborhood level.
  • Understand and develop an individual’s unique leadership style.
  • Contribute to community change

As a part of this program, Future Health Leaders of New Haven will attend group sessions twice per month for the first four months and will dedicate approximately five hours per week throughout the course of the 9-month program. Due to COVID-19, meetings will be held via video conference until it is safe to meet in person.
