Awards to New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut high school teachers in eligible counties to recognize outstanding contributions to economic education. The purpose of this award is to promote high school level economic education by honoring exceptional teachers who effectively deliver content both in and out of the classroom.

The review committee will look for applicants who:

  • Exhibit innovative approaches to economic and financial education using multiple teaching approaches
  • Inspire their students to make an economic way of thinking a mainstay in their personal and academic lives
  • Demonstrate student achievement (examples could include performance assessments, pre- and post-test results, student portfolios, videos, or any other assessment instrument or technique)
  • Challenge and encourage students to use economics as a mechanism for acquiring the skills necessary to succeed in their education and with their future careers
  • Validate projects, lessons, and opportunities designed to push kids to go beyond the textbook, creating student participation with assessments of their learning
  • Reflect a commitment to economic education that extends beyond the classroom
  • Encourage a collaborative environment where students are encouraged to take charge of their learning, create an atmosphere of inquiry, use different lenses to understand a problem, and inspire an economic curiosity to see how their knowledge ties to the real world.
  • Honorees must agree to support CEE’s efforts on behalf of training teachers and representing CEE at selected events. Honorees will agree to lead one professional development workshop within six months of receiving the Sloan award.
